Welcome Letter

“Within the child lies the fate of the Future.” …Maria Montessori

Dear Families,
After an enjoyable and relaxing summer break we welcome and embrace both our new and returning families to the 3-6 Montessori programme.

Our enthusiastic, dedicated staff is well prepared to receive your children into an inviting, interactive environment in which your children will quickly become engaged in numerous, interesting and challenging learning experiences. We will awaken your children’s spirit and imagination; encourage their normal desire for independence and high sense of self esteem; help them develop kindness, courtesy, and self-discipline that will allow them to become full members of society; help them learn how to observe, question and explore ideas independently and to help them master the skills and knowledge of their society.

As a reminder, our P1 students start school on Tuesday, September 6th.  Our Enrichment After-school Programme (EAP) also commences on the 6th. If your child is registered for EAP then immediately after class he/she will be taken to the “Cottage” to enjoy activities such as arts and crafts, yoga, Spanish and cooking.

Our 3 year old half day and 3 year old full day students start on Wednesday, September 7th.  At 12:00 the 3 year full days will be taken to the “Cottage” by Ms. Robinson and Mrs. Brewster who will remain with the children until 3:00.  Our 4 year old full day children begin Thursday, September 8th.

Many children will be new to our 3-6 programme and need to feel especially comfortable separating from their parents.  You can really help in preparing them for their learning adventure by telling them fun and interesting stories about school and the exciting prospect of making new friends. Share some amusing tales about your own school days with them and let them know how happy we are that they are students of Somersfield!  Remember that your goal is to help your children achieve independence.  Please do not forget that all new students to the programme and their parents are invited to our Open House on Friday, September 2nd from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. We will see you then!

Your children’s teachers will be sending out their class newsletters to keep you informed as to what topics and projects will be covered.  You can readily access our site www.somersfieldblackboard.com to keep up to date with school events and other interesting information. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to share some great news, please let the teachers know.  They can be reached via email or by sending a simple note in with your child. In addition, I am available every day from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays until 5:30; my door is always open to welcome you.

The Montessori philosophy promotes independent learning and cooperative learning for children to share their knowledge and experiences.  We want your children to feel a sense of wonder, fun and joy in all they accomplish and we appreciate your positive support of your children, our teachers and programme.

Thank you, we are proud that your family is a part of our school community.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gwen Fahy
3-6 Montessori Division Head
