Founded as a Montessori school for ages 3-12 years in 1991 by a dynamic group of parents. IB Middle Years Programme was established in 2001 and was fully authorized in 2005.

Compete in: swimming, football, netball, cross country, track and field, field hockey, tennis, badminton, rugby, volleyball, softball and cricket. Also instruction in: rounders, squash, dance and gymnastics.

Arts:


Interdisciplinary dramatic arts production for Year 3,4,5, performing and visual arts through MYP Year 5

Student leadership and clubs:


Student Government for the middle years, Student Council for the elementary, Prefects Programme, foreign travel, exchange trips and a variety of special interest clubs

Academics:


Somersfield Academy Graduation Criteria

· Completion of years 4 and 5 of Middle Years Programme

· Required hours fulfilled in all 8 subject areas of IB programme

· Personal Project completed in year 5 to the following standard:

1. Completion and presentation of project to satisfaction of supervisor

2. Meetings kept with supervisor and deadlines for completion of sections kept

3. Process journal maintained

· Community Service completed by end of year 5 to the following standard:

1. Time commitment fulfilled

2.   Process journal maintained

3.   Satisfactory evaluation by supervisor

· Satisfactory attendance record  i.e. 90% excluding excused absences and except in case of documented medical condition

Honours Diploma = Graduation Requirements fulfilled, an average summative grade of 5.0 and no summative grade below 4, including the Personal Project

Diploma = Graduation Requirements fulfilled

Certificate of Attendance = Regular full time attendance (90% as above)
