Somersfield Sr Softball
We would like to congratulate the Somersfield Sr Softball team as the youngest team in the tournament, they only lost by one run in the finals to come 2nd at the interschool competition. A tough final score but you can still hold your heads high! We would also like to congratulate our Somersfield Alumni who represented the majority for the BHS boys team, the schools first boys team entry in their school history. Way to carry it on boys!

Rugby

RUGBY: Somersfield 45 Saltus  5

In the season opener, the Somersfield U14 Rugby team dominated their Saltus opponents with some blistering and bruising play. The match took place at Saltus and both teams were able to field full sides. Saltus had some experienced forwards and were strong in the ruck and maul.Somersfield though were lethal on the counter attack and in open play, producing many passages of strong running Rugby, with offloads from the tackle and great support work enabling Somersfield to run in 9 Tries, with 1 in reply by Saltus. There were good performances all over the pitch, but mention is made of those new to the sport and playing their first competitive match. Kebir Gadio, Michael Betteto and James Grearson all made telling contributions in what was a great team performance.

Somersfield has some great younger players (M1, P6, P5) and we hope to be able to arrange inter-school matches at U12 level and below soon. So, if you're interested in your son playing, please come down to training.Training for this group is after school on Thursdays (except for half term). So, come on down on 4th February and see Mr. Topley (a Somersfield Parent and (trying to retire) Rugby Player and Mr. Caslin, who will be coaching.

Rugby for the M2's and up is cancelled this week because of the School trip to Quebec. We'll recommence training for this group on the Thursday following half term.

The Rugby program is run by the following and we'd be very happy if there are any more Dad's or Mum's out there who want to help coach:

Garth Lorimer TurnerDavid CroftsJames O'ShaughnessyDes NashPatrick TopleyDermot Caslin

Please note that girls would also be very welcome to join the training. This is especially so at the Under 12 level. With the older players, it can be difficult to properly accommodate girls given the physicality of the sport. However, if any girls are interested, they would be more than welcome.
