Volunteer OpportunitiesIf you are interested in volunteer opportunities at Somersfield please contact Stacey-Lee Williams at swilliams@somersfield.bm Our parents play a very active role in our community. We recognize and appreciate that we are successful because of the commitment our parents show towards the school. Thank you in advance for your active role in our community. Opera ProductionOur Opera has been cast and when we return in the New Year we will be working diligently on organizing the songs and dances of our performance in February.
We have already had some offers of support from parents who are interested in helping with the production. Any help is greatly appreciated and necessary in order for our opera to run smoothly.
Budding ChefOur Budding Chef competition has been scheduled for Saturday, February 5th. Students from each level are invited to enter the competition by submitting a dish prepared by them with the assistance of one adult. The dishes are judged by professional chefs, members of our staff and parent judges. Volunteer opportunities for this event include: registration persons, photographers, set up and break down people and judges. We will also need volunteers to join the planning team. This is a great opportunity for those parents who are in the culinary arts field to become involved. Parent Social/AuctionAre you interested in assisting us with the organization of the Parent Social this year? Each year the members of the PTA plan a fundraising event that focuses on bringing the Somersfield community of parents and teachers together in a festive and inviting atmosphere. This year the goal of fun and fundraising continue to be our aim whilst we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the school. The scheduled date for the social is Saturday, March 12th. We have some great ideas for the social and would like to add your idea to our list and your name to the planning team. In addition, we are looking for a team of parents to take on the classroom art projects. This team will be responsible for working with groups of students and creating a piece of art to be auctioned off at the parent social. Please note that the art project volunteers are not required to organize the auction or parent social, but are welcome to do so if they wish. ReadathonOur read-a-thon is scheduled for March 7th through to March 25th. Mrs. Susie Hall and Ms. Nancy Smith are looking for parents to join the planning and implementation team. The theme will be based around the 20th year anniversary of the school. Volunteers will assist in planning the activities associated with the read-a-thon for example: character day, special presentations, book swap and a book sale. Float in the May 24th Bermuda Day ParadeAs part of our 20th Anniversary celebrations, we are looking to enter a float in the May 24th parade. The Department of Community and Cultural affairs will publish the theme for the parade some time in February, however, we would like to prepare for this by securing a team of carpenters, designers and workers.
